Interpretation · editorial overview

No. A near-death experience is a reported experience associated with a life-threatening or perceived life-threatening event; its interpretation requires attention to circumstances and evidence. Christian resurrection hope concerns Christ’s resurrection and the promised future transformation of the dead. First Corinthians 15 argues for that hope, not for the reliability of modern near-death accounts. These categories should remain distinct even when a person interprets an experience religiously. A survivor’s memory may be meaningful without proving a final resurrected state or a location beyond death. Christian hope need not rest on the frequency, vividness, or popularity of testimony reports.
